Short Term Sweet
I wrote this a long time ago, and as I was browsing my archives I found it and thought: Well, whaddaya know? I DO have something I can post on my blog!
So here goes:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A dream is sweet while it lasts, but the bitterness of the
aftertaste overrides the pleasure of the moments past
The future holds what the dream refused to realize,
and the defiance of the truth will create its enemy alliance
With little reason to go along with a future fading,
this grey heart is forever remaining
Promises of forever never transcend the time that is assured with brittle words,
and as life unfolds the frost on the ground kills the singing birds
Hoping for a tomorrow that cannot be, wishing on a star beyond eternity
Our hopes and dreams stand weak on shaky ground;
our voices are hoarse with the use of the sound
Forever and a day are not something we can expect.
Already our always away is being swept
Reveal to me your true perspective on how you feel;
is your conscience clear? Is any of this real?
Are you only addicted to the thing that makes you feel like you’re truly alive,
when in reality it’s nothing more than a shallow lie?
Our bonds are strong, or are they really?
Our relation is wrong, and our glances are steely
We’re two entities that are worlds and eons apart.
We’re two souls marching to the beat of our own heart
You’ll refuse to believe it, this I know,
but it’s us we’re deceiving...
Everyone else knows.
We’re leading our hearts deeper into despair.
The deeper we go, the more we crave air
We’re suffocating our beings; we’re denying what’s real.
We say things we think are true... But we don’t really feel.
For all it’s worth I do love you,
and for all it’s worth it’s all true,
but when we’re together as we are now
I can only wonder if our days are numbered and few.
Tell me how you feel, read this letter over and over.
Our hands are clasped together desperately begging not to be let go
The tide is high as the winds sweep over the water at many miles an hour,
and our breath runs short as we’re pulled ever under
Our hearts are delicate and not things to plunder,
so let’s address this agony and move along to greener grass over yonder
Please think deeply about what I’ve written;
don’t allow the weak heart to interfere with your reason forbidden.
Lock not your logic and what you truly feel;
let lust not cloud your true senses,
and remain aware of what you know is true
Love is a drug at its best when not an addiction.
It’s pure in nature, but putrid when abused
Lust or love my dear?
Do we really know how to tell them apart?
Is it love or desire to feel one near?
Do we care for each other?
Or is it just what we want to hear?
After you’ve read this I know you’ll be shaking
These words are strong and crude in the making
All things we both hate to admit
All things we prefer to leave in a room dimly lit
Cry if you must, but don’t sob if you can
Collect your emotion and hold it at bay
Just until you can sort out what you may
Where, in your eyes, do we truly stand?
Leave this not to the dark to cure
The dark will cure nothing, it will only obscure
Which best do you trust?
Is it your love, or is it your lust?
So here goes:
